Membership Application

From Dick Wuest, Executive Secretary of the Veteran Apothecaries Association of Cincinnati (VAAC).

Being that VAAC is made up of the Who’s Who of Pharmacists in Greater Cincinnati, I notice that there is a prominent name missing from our membership. We would like you to be our guest for an upcoming meeting and luncheon to get an idea of what we are all about (mostly fellowship and good humor).

The Veteran Apothecaries Association of Cincinnati (VAAC) is the oldest and most prestigious professional association for pharmacists in the greater Cincinnati area. Founded in 1927, this group of dedicated pharmacists has met monthly on over 1130 occasions to gather together in a spirit of fraternity, harmony, learning and good will among its members. Over 190 of your friends and colleagues now belong to VAAC. We celebrated the Association’s 90th anniversary December 2017

When asked why they joined the Veteran Apothecaries of Cincinnati (VAAC) and continue to attend meetings, the overwhelming consensus of responses from current members included:

  • Enjoy the social interactions, camaraderie and fellowship with old friends, classmates, those I knew during my career or heard about but never got the opportunity to meet.

  • The food is great.

  • Speakers are interesting, and programs are short and to the point.

  • Offers me 2 hours well spent. Always have great conversations and learn something new each meeting.

  • Offers me the opportunity to get out of the house and maintain activity in the profession.

  • Proud to be a member of the oldest ongoing pharmacy organization in Cincinnati.

  • Proud to be a member of an organization of veterans helping to support the education ofyoung people entering the profession through donations to the U. C. College of Pharmacy Professional Practiced Skills Center. My name will appear on the list of members present and past that is displayed on the VAAC Plaque in the Pharmacy Practice Skills Center.

Other comments include:

  • "It’s a wonderful experience. Offers a chance to break bread and chat with others who share the same profession."

  • "Had heard about VAAC, but worked every Tuesday. After retiring, went to a meeting and found it interesting and enjoyable."

  • "It’s great to get together and discuss our latest ailment instead of complaining about insurance companies and third party payers."

  • "Surprised by the number of others I knew or heard of but never got a chance to meet."

  • "Like the mission of VAAC: 'to bind in a spirit of fraternity, harmony, learning and good will' those working for the cause of Pharmacy in the Greater Cincinnati area."

  • "Nice to have somebody remember my birthday.”

Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of 10 months a year, consisting of:

  • luncheon  +  guest speaker  +   Split the pot raffle

  • short business meeting

  • remembrance of departed members

  • recognition of those celebrating their birthday that month

  • good cheer from the Talking Secretary

plus plenty of fellowship and open discussions.

There is also an Annual Picnic in September and a Holiday Party in December, both of which are jam-packed with fun, good cheer and great food and beverages.

The qualifications for membership are:

  • must be a pharmacist or friend of pharmacy (i.e., manufacturer's representative, faculty/staff member of the College of Pharmacy, suppliers, etc.) for at least 25 years.

  • must be able to enjoy fellowship with pharmacy colleagues.

  • must have a desire to learn more about the profession and the world around us.

Meetings are held at Raffels Catering, 10160 Reading Road 45241.

Festivities begin at 12 Noon with a buffet lunch at 12:30, followed by a speaker and meeting.

Membership dues are only $50.00 a year; luncheon is $24.00 each meeting. You do not have to attend every meeting and your first lunch is compliments of VAAC.
